Going After The Happy Ending....

I NEEDED SOME QUIET TIME
Tonight, as I sit here, eager to blog after a much needed break, I am not sure how it will pour out. It's been over a month since I last wrote. My kids and I were moving into a new home, so in the nooks and crannies of being a busy, single career mom, I only gave myself a month to pack up a 2500 sq. ft house...(In hind sight? probably should have given myself more time.)

Needless to say, I was burned out, and feeling a bit overwhelmed in some areas of life, so I decided to take some "quiet" time for myself. Sometimes, in order to find balance, I temporarily remove things from this often overflowing plate. Unfortunately, my blog is one of those things that I don't "HAVE" to do. It's more of what I enjoy doing; that favorite hobby that even though I prefer not to, I can and must put on the back burner once in a while. I  love to inspire you and quite honestly, it's very therapeutic for me to do so. I appreciate you reading and sharing... I want you to know that.

Taking that break was a great idea after all. I am starting to feel alive again, and even in the imperfect moments, I push through. Finding the bright side is truly second nature to me at this point. I have heaved enough hurdles, swallowed enough disappointments and overcome enough obstacles to last a lifetime... (and it actually feels like they have lasted that long.)

NOW THAT THE DUST HAS SETTLED
After getting settled into the new home last week, I was able to attend my new church for the first time, and attended again today. After an INCREDIBLE two weeks of worship and amazing messages, I was moved to get back to writing, (now that I am out of cardboard hell.)

In this season of life, I find that every message I hear gets closer and closer to my heart and know that it is certainly more than coincidence. I feel God himself is speaking to me, telling me what I need to hear like a soft whisper. It is very comforting, and makes me feel so well taken care of as I continue to pray upon a few areas of life that I just can't seem to get right.

DIGGING IN
As I travel down a completely new road of life, I am feeling a spiritual need to dig  further into the depths of my past... my present, and hopes for my future. I felt the need to write down lessons that I have learned, am learning now and ones I feel I still need to learn. I felt it would help me remind myself how far I have come, where I am now and to get more excited about where I hope to go. Perspective is everything, and often even though we are moving forward, it feels instead like we are treading water as we go after something.

STOPPING TO SOAK IT IN
If we don't stop and breathe for a bit, to reflect and plan ahead, we will end up getting lost in our travels. Tomorrow (August 19th) marks what would have been my oldest sister's 51st birthday if she were still here. It was my first official day back to the grind since the move so I have declared it the first day of the rest of my life in her honor.

I refuse to make the same mistakes anymore, I promise myself to stay true to my values, morals, ethics and goals. I will expect more and stop accepting less than what I am worth. I will choose to limit  my time spent to those who show the desire to spend time with me. Chasing dreams is fun and exciting, chasing people, not so much.

It's amazing what you realize when you are truly honest with yourself... what happens when you sit with pen and paper and write down your mistakes and decisions and how they affected your life. It gives you clarity and helps you realize exactly what NOT to do again and exactly what to do in order to fix it, to change it. Everything good begins with change.

DON'T GIVE UP, TAKE A CHANCE
Are you TRULY happy in all aspects of your life right now? If you are, then job well done, you better cherish that! If not, what can YOU do to change your position? What is it that holds you back? What cycles are you repeating that keep you in a vicious circle of what you don't want? Are you taking chances or staying safe?

For some, taking chances is all they have ever done... (ahem, me) and for others, chances are what they have never taken and wonder why they stand still. Safety nets may catch you when you fall, but the exciting part is being shot out of the canon... the feeling you get while you are flying cannot be described nor duplicated.

MY HAPPY ENDING AWAITS... SO DOES YOURS
The 3 year anniversary of my book releasing on Amazon is October 20th... just a couple of days away. I plan to write a few hours each night until my next book is complete starting that day. I did it once, I can do it again. Focus... dedication and perseverance will get me to that "Happy Ending" that I so desire. The blessing lies in being happy while I go after it.

One day... I will be married to the man God wants me to have, or live happily in the fact of never marrying for the reasons I should have had. I will live the abundant life He promises, I will reach all my goals and LIVE OUT my dreams... because that is what being faithful means; believing that your "Happy Ending" is there even when it's not able to be seen yet.

Are you waiting for yours? Is it right in front of you or in the far far distance? It is up to you to not let it pass you by, pay attention, pursue it, GO AFTER IT and once you have it, NEVER let it go.

Until next time....

PURSUE WHAT YOU HOPE FOR; LEAVE BEHIND WHAT YOU WISH TO FORGET....

and  for that ONE special person that I know God is creating for me...
I can't wait to live this life with you

xoxo

Challenges of Being a Passionate Person

Ahhh... man have I missed that sound; the sound of soft piano music playing which is always what I listen to as I write. I have been so busy that it has been a full two and a half weeks since I was able to sit down and write freely just letting whatever is on my mind flow out like a raging river. I am soaking up this moment as I speak out in verse... it's my muse and I hold these moments so dear. I look forward to a time when I will be able to slow down just a bit and spend more time doing just this. The time that will come when I have reached that eventual point in my head when I will relax in satisfaction knowing that all my hard work and dedication has finally given me and my kids all that we will ever want and need; I know that day will come.

The challenges that passionate people face are countless but most of us would not have it any other way; it is actually part of the excitement. Always having some sort of burning desire that makes you wake up and keeps you from sleeping at night can be both a blessing and a curse. Your passions often hold your focus making it hard for others to become a part of your life unless they can be excited with you... unless they can dream and visualize what you see in your head. It can get lonely... so we simply stay busy to keep our minds off of that. It is only when we have quiet moments with nothing to do that we think about the sacrifices we make to go after what lights our fire, makes us tick... what we have found is our purpose in life. Realizing that you can easily alienate yourself from so many things in the world around you is quite humbling.

From the outside looking in, being passionate looks exciting and can be very motivating...  let me express that although it is, it does not mean the life we lead is for everyone. If it was, "living your dreams" would not be that special. Being passionate about something is more often a roller coaster ride than it is being secure or knowing what to expect, it is simply a force that you cannot control. I have had people say to me... "I could never do what you do, I would be so stressed not knowing from day to day, week to week if I would make enough to do everything that I needed and wanted to do." I say that I could never do what they do... regardless of how secure it felt, it would never feel right knowing that I would be trading reaching my fullest potential or seeing how far I can go for a secure salary.  I often give up wants in order to be sure that the needs of my kids and I are met and am afraid to spend too much just in case tomorrow yields a different forecast, but that is still better to me than putting my future in someone else's hands. I can guarantee what I do, but I will never control or be able to guarantee what someone else does, feels or decides. I suppose this is part of the discipline a self made entrepreneur must possess to survive the ups and downs.

The people closest to you may not always understand your passions... they may not support you and may even exclude you from things. They might mock you making fun of what your dreams, goals and ambitions are or treat you like you are worthless. People that are insecure or who have settled into comfort zones typically feel jealous or uncomfortable around people who are going after something in life. Passionate people ALWAYS want to be part of something bigger, and a truly passionate person knows that what others think will not deem their success or failure... but that allowing what others say to change our direction that will.

There have been times in my life when I allowed people to pull me away from my goals and dreams... without those setbacks I would have likely already reached my ultimate goals, but I also believe that the setbacks were necessary at the time. They were a purposeful part of my journey and I accept that as truth. The path I am headed down now is the right one... I feel it with every ounce of my soul and with that, I have become more passionate over the past few years than I have ever been. I have lost the people in my life that were not meant to be in it for the long haul and I have gained some that may very well be with me until the end; either way, life is happier and much better even if I do sit home on Friday nights to blog or work, or to do something that will help me reach what I am going after.

We all tick differently... I may not understand why every person on the planet does not want to find something to become passionate about  and go after it, however I respect that we are not all the same and love people where they are. It's simply unfortunate that I don't always get that same respect for being who I am, however I can live with it and will still accomplish my dreams without it.

If you are one of the many that sit back and watch these passionate souls around you in confusion... know that what we fight for, we live for. What we dream of, we expect to make a reality with every ounce of who we are no matter what you think.... we go after it and will sacrifice things you likely would not to get what we seek. Understand that we hope one day you can appreciate us and respect that we simply attached ourselves to something that we loved and gave it our all. If you are someone that feels a burning desire to be part of something bigger... if you have a dream or goal that you are afraid to go after because of what others might think... let me tell you that it is worth it. Even when you are lonely, you will have purpose and God knows where your heart is even when nobody else understands. DON'T let go of your dreams... let your passions live and thrive so life will be more amazing. Safety nets don't always catch you so you may as well fly.

Until next time...

xoxo

Overcoming Obstacles...YOU CAN!

Today, as I sip my morning coffee, staring out the front bay window of my Aunt's home, I am smiling inside, for I have survived yet another few whirlwind weeks. Let's see... Abrielle was in the hospital for three days with double pneumonia. Due to the high pollen count... my two youngest and I are suffering terribly with seasonal allergies. As soon as she got out of the hospital, I was knocked down for the count for a few days with what they said was allergy related bronchitis; all in the last week of school; such timing. I was working hard with my financial business trying to gain a promotion that meant a nice big raise in commission, so I worked around the clock... set goals, met with families in the late hours of the evening and intertwined my other career in between it all, but I did it... I promoted in the last hour of June and promoted to Distict Manager which allowed me to check off another goal just before my business trip to Boston this week.

I am relentless, determined, and very different, but nevertheless, I am me; constantly setting heights and going after them often wondering why others don't do the same. Although I get tired, it is SO much fun and what a rush to push yourself beyond limits to achieve your dreams! I don't know what else to do with my time, it is how I am wired.

The first few days of July were peaceful, I forced myself to rest a bit, but allergies struck again and I started coughing. Worried that I was leaving on the 7th for a 4 day business trip to do hair, makeup and wardrobe styling for White Mountain Shoes Fall/Winter catalog, I decided to go to an urgent care last Saturday when it got worse. I was diagnosed with allergy induced bronchitis again and was dosed up with meds to help me breathe better. I began to feel better on Sunday but on Monday as I was taxiing the runway I received a phone call from the doctor saying that my x-rays were read by a radiologist and that I was walking around with pneumonia. I chuckled because I felt better, and knowing I had two long days of work, I was going to have to beat this. So I put my mind into high positive gear and thought about being better, not about my diagnosis.

I made it through... I kept my mind right and luckily, with meds, prayer and mindset, I manifested what I needed to make it.

Now, I did not tell you all of that for any other reason than this. In life, we are thrown things that try to stop us in our tracks... when this happens, we have two choices; give up or push on. Most people give up but winners push on. People around us may think we are insane; we probably are a bit... but there is a fine line between insanity and success and I will take my chances every time. Winners NEVER quit, instead they program their minds to only one setting... and that is the "secret" they possess. I am walking, living proof that you can do anything you set your mind to. I have had more obstacles, boulders and mishaps than many people that I know but what I possess that you may not is a willingness to do it no matter what it takes, to keep going when I have nothing left and to get back up every time I fall and simply hit my reset button to start again. If you want something bad enough, you will attain it if you JUST DO IT.

Today is my last morning in the crisp summer air of my home state of Massacusetts, and I have had a wonderful time working, seeing family and just relaxing a bit. I am looking forward to seeing my family in Florida, sleeping in my bed, and even cleaning my house. I truly love my life, I am thankful for everything in it... my pursuit continues to make all of it even better because there's always room to grow. I doubt I will ever be complacent, but that does not mean I am not content... there is a difference.

Whatever things you may be facing... whatever obstacles or emotions are erupting, just keep going my friend. Manifest what's inside of you that will push you through; for life was never promised to be easy but nothing attained easily is ever worth the same weight of something that you work really hard for and be proud of.

Despite what some people may think, there is nothing narcissistic about loving who you are, being proud of what you have become and overcome, who you plan to be and wanting to share it all with others so that you may inspire them and motivate them to be all that they can be. That is why I share, it's not for glory so don't ever think that is my motive. In fact, lifting others up, inspiring them, encouraging them, sharing our stories, learning to be raw, real and proud...is something to be spoken of and those who do it should be celebrated. Without inspiration, we would never look forward to anything, we would never have hope; I cannot imagine that life. A victory no matter how small or how big... it is still a victory, so celebrate each and every one.

FAMILY TIME IS THE BEST TIME

Not Always Rainbows...

I have missed writing for two weeks, that's 4 blog posts that I now owe you and typically when this happens, it is because I am busy with work. Now, although I HAVE been very busy with home/career stuff this was not the reason I failed to blog this time; nope... this time I did not blog because I was struggling with some personal issues and had to take a mental break to sort through some things in my head. Unfortunately, it took me longer than normal to sort and I realize that maybe I should have blogged; blogging helps me sort...it's like therapy for me. I suppose I don't always have to be the one that is super strong... I suppose I too can emotionally crack from time to time and still be a person who others look up to, admire and consult; after all, I am human and imperfect just like everyone else, so perhaps it is not so odd or strange to feel his way.

So as I was saying... I had some mental "poo" to deal with and although it's not completely sorted yet, I have come to terms that drastic changes are going on in my life right now and what I am feeling are simply the growing pains of it all. Just this week I was on a business trip and as I was sitting in my hotel room alone one night thinking in a quiet solitude of nothingness, I vividly remembered where my life was just 5 short years ago. I felt like everything was crumbling around me and all I had to rely on was my faith and my Mom; I could not have recovered without her strength and help, but trusting in my faith is what got me through. I decided this week in that very moment curled up in that comfy hotel room bed, that all I had to do was repeat the process I did 5 years ago.

So many wonderful things are happening; so many growth spurts, so I was a fool to think that everything and everyone including me could remain untouched and unaffected by the changes happening in my life. This is a new stage, new leaves are turning and because I am feeling more growth than ever before, I was starting to feel pretty lonely. People around me, many whom are the closest to me are not understanding or supporting my decisions because they are used to me the way I have been so these changes are uncomfortable, even when it is logical and what's best for me and my family. Many people are complacent, they have settled for "what is" instead of going after "what can be"... that one trait has always made me different. I always find ways to improve, to figure out what issues I have and how to deal with them better. We ALL have issues and ailments, but I have never settled into such a comfort that I wanted to stay where I was; it's just not how I am wired. I simply have to accept that not everyone is like that. I explore the most into who I am and what my fullest potential is, so it is often hard to understand why others don't.

I am learning a lot more about myself lately, I know that I am molting into new skin and it's not quite comfortable yet, not even for me... but I also know I am meant for what's ahead so I will trust in my faith once again and PUSH forward into the direction I am being led. I must accept that some will follow and some will run the other way. As I reach my fullest potential, I will lose those who were merely there for a moment, who were there only to serve a purpose or teach me a valuable lesson. There are two kinds of people in our lives... the ones who matter and the rest. Learn who really matters in life; the ones that stand by you no matter what, the ones who love and support you no matter how crazy you are; the ones that know you are too valuable to let go... hold onto them.

As I end tonight's blog, I will say this...

I am happy, because I chose to be. I go through things that tear me down, make me want to quit, become complacent and accept less than I deserve....but I refuse to let ANY of that happen. Failure is not an option... for when you give up you will never experience what your life was meant to be and never realize what you are truly capable of. Along the way, you will only lose what was intended to be temporary. When you keep going, what you are left with is your destiny.

One of THOSE nights...

My brain is fried, my eyes want to close, but my mind won't stop turning, thinking, dreaming of possibilities, ideas and goals. It is a vicious cycle, an unending roller coaster of excitement, emotions and incredibility. Life is very good lately; I dreamed of the day when I could reap all that I had sewn and those days are showing themselves loud and clear. I am trying to stay organized in my own head when so much good is going on, when so many of my passions are weaving together to make that perfect blanket wrapping me in security for the rest of my life; it's surreal and scary and amazing... it feels good and odd in the same second of time.

I am dealing with an inner struggle, a mental hiccup, something I must work out; and I will.
I am starting to understand what it is like to win, to overcome all that you have faced in your past reaching, inching towards that moment when you can finally exhale. I am scared of that moment, I am not sure I will know what to do if  given the chance to sit back and just enjoy life... always being the worker, the go-getter, the bread-winner. I have always heard that success is scary, and am beginning to think that is because after all your hard work, dedication, blood, sweat and many, many pools of tears, you are fearful that when you get there, it will all go away leaving you to start all over again. I am so glad that I have faith, hope and that I am a realist. I am happy that I am weird, odd, different, square; that is what got me here and made me stick it out.

A few days ago, I introduced my book to someone that did not know I wrote one... when they asked for a copy, I hand delivered it and asked if they would like to hear the "back cover" read by the author herself in a comical manner. When he said yes, I began to read. Within seconds my voice began to shake and I could feel the emotions taking over as I read the excerpt of my own story; suddenly overwhelmed I got choked up. It had been a while since I had read the back cover of my book, and I don't know that I had ever read it aloud to someone. There came a point when I had to stop reading because I was ready to burst into tears. It was an instant flashback of my life and I found it hard to believe I made it through; it was so strange... really, really weird and although I have told my story to several crowds now, I was not where I am now. I am on the edge of that horizon getting ready to experience all the beauty and I truly hope that you will do everything you can to get to that point one day too. Find your purpose, find what you were meant to do and RUN LIKE HELL towards it. When you go after something with undying ambition you WILL get it.

As always
Have an awesome week!

The Early Bird Gets Delayed

Here I sit in the Sacramento International Airport eyes wanting to shut, brain still semi-working and TONS of time before I board my plane. I had already arrived 3 hours early because I had nowhere to really go and when I was told there was a flight delay and I will now leave at 1:00 a.m. California time I thought, "A great chance to write a weekend blog."  I will warn you now that I am am BEYOND exhausted and will not be held responsible for any jibberish that I may write.

I left Lake Tahoe today after an amazing week of doing makeup for Teeny B Bikini Couture; one of my favorite commercial clients (despite the 5 a.m. call times we must have to catch that amazing morning sun.) After 7 days in San Jose last week and 5 days in Lake Tahoe... I will have been away for 13 days by the time I get home tomorrow morning; GOSH! I am SO ready to be home! 6 a.m.wake up times on a 3 hour time difference, staying up till wee hours for 7 days writing, followed by 5 days of 5 a.m. call times for makeup and evening prep for the next day, has left me sort of brain dead.. yep I am done, even a bit grumpy-tired if I may admit.

However, as I sit here and reflect on my trip, I am smiling, (despite my need for toothpicks) because I am living my dream... LIKE REALLY! NO JOKE! I said that I would do this one day. I envisioned myself being flown all over the country to do makeup and hair, writing inspirational books and speaking to others about my story. Talking to people about how to achieve their dreams and how to BELIEVE. I had my doubts... we all do, but I never allowed my doubts to overshadow what I wanted to go after and well... smack me now, but IT WORKED! I know that my next stage of this success journey are paychecks that will make me pass out... so please pray that I don't have a heart attack before I am able to GIVE some of that money to people who need it more than me. Will I do that? Sure I will; after I set my mom and dad up with a worry free bank account for all they have done for me. I have always been a giver... even when I did not have anything monetary to give... ask anyone who knows me, they will verify this statement. Giving of myself, my time, and my "things" has done more for me than I ever imagined. I have been blessed in return time and time again. I get paid... I make a nice living, but money has certainly never been my biggest blessing. The biggest blessings are knowing that you did something right, doing something that you set out to do, doing something that helped someone else... and having something that you can be proud of even when you are still struggling. THOSE are things that money cannot buy and THOSE are the things I don't ever want to lose.

Okay... time for me to go, I am in need of a cot.. or a bench or a chair to sleep in until I can board my plane. My eyes are shut now and I still have an hour to wait. (thank goodness I know where the keys are.) I will resume my regular blog schedule next week and perhaps share some pictures from my trip!

Have You Ever Had A Dream Squashed?

How many people have you heard, or how many times have you said to yourself... "What if?" (fill in the blank) Now... how many of those people or you have turned right around and said, "why not?" You see... saying "what if" proves that you have a desire; we all have desires... things we want to accomplish, things we wish we could buy, people we want to be with, places we want to go; but how many of us really GO FOR IT? How many of us say "Why not?" How many of us swallow our pride, jump in with both feet and take a leap of faith and plan out the steps we need to take to make it happen. Sadly...it's a small percentage. Many people are more willing to say "what if" than admitting that they've "been there done that" and failed.

So... why do people give up on their dreams and goals? In my life, there were many nay-sayer's, non believers-in-me who tried to squash my dreams. I must say that there were times I almost believed them and everything they were saying because it was easier to give up than to press on. Something inside of me would not let me throw in the towel, I had a burning desire to win, to prove to myself that I could do anything that I set my mind to. I love a challenge; always have and was born with business running in through my veins. I understand that the way I do things is not for everyone, not everyone has the same desires as me and certainly not everyone has the ambition or drive to push through. It is important to know however, that we ALL have it in us... we have the ability and the gifts which we have been blessed with to live out a life of greatness and meet our fullest potential. The question is not if we can, it's whether or not we WILL. Will YOU ignite that flame and fight to keep it lit?

I want you to think about a dream... a goal that you once had... maybe it was one that someone squashed along your journey. I want you to ask yourself how bad you still want it. Do you want it bad enough to put it back in the forefront and work achieving it into your every day life? It's not about making something happen overnight, it's about putting into action what you can logically and physically do in order to work towards a goal. It's about looking forward to something, living with purpose and adding more meaning to your life... it's about creating your own Happy Ending; it's possible because everything that seems impossible becomes I'M-possible when you just slow down and pace it right.

To my readers from all over the world...
Have a fabulous day/night/evening/morning keep pressing on, never give up and tell those dream squashers to eat your dust!

Zeroing In On Your Goal

I, Shelley Giard, went nearly a WHOLE day without social media! HOLY MOLEY! For those of you who follow me on Facebook, you know that I am rarely quiet; typically posting at least once if not several times a day across the numerous social pages depending on what's going on in my world. That being said, every time that I have been quiet it has been for good reason; today was no exception.

Today, I was FOCUSED on a goal... a mission of sorts and had to do what I had to do in order to accomplish it. I know myself well; and if I don't zone in when I am trying to get something completed, my severe A.D.D. , scatterbrained self,  and "I see shiny objects" mentality take over. I have to turn off all devices and distractions and just HONE IN on my target. Today, that target happened to be setting up my son's new "home school" classroom. What? Yes... I officially removed my son from his "half-ash"  Pre-k program because he was not learning squat. I decided to take matters into my own hands so he is not clueless when he goes off to kindergarten next year. I am challenged, because in order to get him up to speed, I feel that I am going to have to school him all summer as well if I decide to start him next year. (I have still not decided on that one since he will not be turning 5 until late August. Any thoughts on that PLEASE share them!)

I have NEVER taught any of my children at home like this. I had a nanny for both my older girls, and sent them off to pre-school at age 3, never having an issue. My youngest daughter Abrielle had the opportunity to be enrolled into the public school system back in October just after she turned 3, to get a head start on school since she has Down syndrome and is doing fabulous! Zane, my super hands on, super curious, rambunctious, hungry, little 4 year boy who loves to learn but not in a traditional way is a loner in this game making his success in learning my new "project". I must admit I am determined to conquer this and will likely use it as an opportunity to learn some things that I should have picked up on in school myself when I was dazed, bored and confused. I am planning to teach him the way I wish I had been taught and see if it works. He is a lot like me in this way so I am thinking that we will learn a lot together!

Shopping today was a ton of fun, I bought dinosaurs, lizards, army men and dice as objects to learn counting and addition with. I bought activity books with trucks, alphabet workbooks, stickers for "that a boy" moments and posters for our learning wall. I then came home and cleared out an entire wall in the garage, which was already our psuedo play room, and I turned it into our classroom. I intend to put the finishing touches on the room this weekend by slapping some nice calm blue paint on the wall and creating a chalk/dry erase/ cork board combo. Decorating spaz, meets business mom, meets anal retentive organized control freak, meets creative artist... no doubt we will have a VERY cool learning environment!

Tomorrow will be day three of learning with Mom... and it's going pretty well (minus the frequent requests for snacks and water which I will break him of very soon) Did I EVER see myself doing this? Ummm NO! In fact I would never have believed I could do it if I had to, but... I feel I have to. I have never considered myself the soccer mom in any way shape or form, but I am also not the mom that will sit back and whine about how my kid is not learning in pre-school and blame his lack of learning on someone else's mishandling. (although in this case it is pretty much the truth) Bottom line is that I am his mom and it is my responsibility to help him any way I can, so I have decided that THIS is what I must do.

I intend to use this learning room for all of my kids. Baleigh struggles as well because typical school does not cater to the starving artists, the creative types like us that need a little more in their curriculum than "See Jane run". Perhaps something new will be birthed from this... other than the obvious disguise that I may be becoming a career woman soccer mom! HA :)

Life does not always take us on the road we thought we'd travel, but life will always get us to our destination if we simply take it one day, one moment, one experience at a time.

Goodnight, good morning, good day or good evening!
